Over the last century, media has continued to evolve at a staggering rate. The last twenty years alone with the creation of the internet, anyone is able produce media content, and present it to the world. Constant innovation happens everyday, with technology becoming cheaper and easier to use. Making it an exciting time to be a consumer, as the mainstay media has to compete against individuals that before would have been below their notice. Modern technology has greatly advanced the way in which we interact and receive media. With online distribution, content creators are able to sell or show their products without the need for physical manufacturing, distribution or stocking. People are accessing the internet to find a larger variety of media. Conventional media has had to contend by presenting their, own online content. This has been an advantage to the consumer as the industry has had to take customer requests and demands more seriously by creating new and better business models. Social media such as YouTube, Face book, Twitter and Wikipedia have unleashed a whole new platform for others to interact. Astonishingly none of these organisations produce any material but merely acts as stage for others to create and present. T hese networks have only recently emerged, leading one to believe their full potential has yet to be reached. Smart phones have integrated these social media outlets into their operating systems, and have greatly benefited by doing so. This is just one example of how media is merging together and becoming more incorporated into one another. Video game consoles have become home media centres. Radio stations are releasing downloadable pod-casts. TV channels are delivering TV on demand as well as ‘’webisodes’’. A shorter format of a TV show that is presentable to a wider audience.
